What inspired you to become a counselor?
“Listening looks easy, but it’s not simple. Every head is a world.” ~Cuban Proverb
I came across that quote a few years ago, and it deeply resonated with me. I truly believe that being heard and deeply listened to is an important part of the healing process. Everyone has a story and sometimes we need to share what’s going on inside our minds and hearts.
I have always been curious about people and their stories and passionate about creating space for others to share them. As I began my own healing journey a few years ago, the experience of being truly heard became a key part of that process. I want to offer that same space to others — a place where they can feel heard, supported, and reminded that they are not alone on this journey we call life.
What is something you would like new clients to know about beginning the counseling process?
Starting counseling takes courage. Being willing to pursue healing and change is both beautiful and hard work, and it can also feel vulnerable or even scary at times. All of those feelings are valid.
It may take some time to feel fully comfortable and that’s okay. Counseling is a collaborative process, and we can go at whatever pace works best for you.
How would you describe your style or approach when counseling?
My counseling style is collaborative, compassionate, and relational. I do not believe in a “one-size-fits-all” approach to counseling, which means I strive to be attentive to the unique needs and experiences of each person in front of me.
I bring curiosity, calm vibes, and empathy into each session. I have an integrative framework of treatment utilizing a variety of theoretical approaches including narrative, family systems, and psychodynamic.
What self-care practices do you enjoy doing the most?
I love spending time in nature. Walking along Lake Michigan or going for a walk at a forest preserve really grounds me. I also enjoy baking, building with Lego, and having glow-in-the dark dance parties with my kids.
