What inspired you to become a counselor?
Believe it or not, counseling was a career I never dreamed of. However, after
completing my undergraduate degree, I began working in church ministry, where I had
the privilege of engaging deeply with the experiences of others. I walked alongside
individuals who were anxious, lost, grieving, angry, and other challenges. Over time, I
observed their journeys toward renewed joy, personal growth, healing, and
empowerment. More importantly, I experienced a similar transformation within myself as
a counselee. This sparked a profound aspiration to provide others with the space to
mend their own brokenness and find healing and empowerment. My journey to
counseling began from that moment on.
What is something you would like new clients to know about beginning the
counseling process?
Feeling anxious about the first session is completely normal. It’s perfectly okay to enter
with distress or even skepticism. My goal is to proceed at your pace and earn your trust
over time. While counseling can be a challenging journey, I am committed to partnering
with you every step of the way with gentleness, empathy, and unconditional positive
regard.
How would you describe your style or approach in counseling?
I recognize that no two clients are the same, so I strive to customize an approach that
best serves each individual. I draw on various therapeutic modalities, including cognitive
behavioral therapy and family systems therapy. For younger clients who benefit from
more interactive methods, I incorporate play therapy to support emotional expression
and problem-solving in a creative and engaging way. My goal is to empower clients
empathically as we address and improve relationships across all areas of their lives,
including family, friendships, work, and, of course, themselves.
What self-care practices do you enjoy doing most?
I enjoy several self-care practices, but lately, my favorite is cozying up in warm pajamas
and a blanket with a cup of tea and a good book. However, with a 1-year-old running
around, finding uninterrupted reading time can be challenging. Therefore, any
opportunity the weather provides for a family walk also brings me immense joy.
