FAQs

Is counseling for me?
Counseling is the process of getting help in the midst of difficulty. At Spring Tree each therapist seeks to create a safe place for you to discuss what’s on your mind, and help you create options that were not previously available. This process can be difficult at times, but often the rewards far outweigh the investment of time, money, and energy.

How long does counseling usually take?
There are many factors that influence the length of the therapy process. Some common issues that influence length of time are the duration and severity of the issue(s), family of origin, support system, and personal style with respect to change.

Is there anything I need to bring to my first visit?
Your therapist will send you a link to complete the Intake Forms online. However, if you would prefer to fill out a paper version of these forms, we recommend you visit the Client Forms webpage ahead of time and complete this information prior to your first appointment. This will help save time and maximize the time you spend connecting with your therapist. If you are planning to use insurance, please either email or include your insurance card and information along with your completed electronic paperwork prior to your first appointment. If you are meeting in-person with your therapist, please bring your insurance card with you to your first appointment.

So what about medication?
Medication can be an invaluable tool in counseling treatment. In Illinois, counselors may not prescribe medication. We recommend that medication be prescribed by a psychiatrist, rather than using a primary care physician because psychiatrists have specialized training and experience in assessment and monitoring medication used for mental health concerns.

How do I refer someone to Spring Tree?
There are a few different ways you can refer someone to Spring Tree. If you do not have a specific therapist in mind, you may direct them to our online contact forms- Contact & Location or Appointment Request. They can also send an email to info@springtreecounseling.com. Additionally, if phone contact is preferred, you may direct them to the general office number found in the upper right corner of this webpage, and they can follow the prompts for first time callers. The Intake Coordinator will follow-up with them as soon as possible to help match them with the best therapist to suit their needs. If you have a specific therapist in mind, the person you are referring can contact the therapist directly by email or phone. Individual therapists’ email addresses are listed on the Our Staff webpage. To reach a therapist by phone, call the main line and leave a message in the therapist’s individual mailbox.

How much does each session cost?
Your session cost will vary with your particular therapist. The cost may also vary if you decide to use insurance, depending on how much your insurance will cover. The initial visit includes a first time administration start-up fee. Please also see Rates and Insurance.
