Stacy Birney, Graduate Clinical Intern

As a clinician in residency, Stacy is nearing completion of her M.A. degree in the CACREP accredited Mental Health Counseling program from Trinity International University. Stacy received her B.A. in Psychology with honors from North Park University in 2006, and has a background in working with diverse populations in community social-service settings. By employing a client-centered, integrative framework utilizing evidence-based practices for care, Stacy is able to help individuals and couples navigate family of origin issues, trauma, mood disorders, loss, grief, relational distress, life transitions, and stress management challenges. Using an interpersonal, trauma-informed approach, Stacy believes the key to quality therapeutic work is found within the safety and depth of relationship established between client and therapist. She maintains membership in the American Counseling Association and the Illinois Counseling Association. Stacy works closely under the support and weekly supervision of Melody Charles-Van Der Werff, MA, LCPC, and also receives weekly faculty supervision through Trinity International University.

Each woman, man, and couple has a sacred story to tell, and I would love the honor to hear yours as we unpack and rebuild in this journey together. Therapy doesn’t need to be a last resort for finding health. Instead, it can be a collaborative space for anyone feeling stuck—perhaps caught in destructive cycles, frustrated with relationships, battling loneliness, or simply wondering where to find help to move toward growth. Though therapy isn’t a quick fix, it is a place to engage in deep, rich, and holistic healing if you’re ready to put in the work. Life is hard enough as it is, especially during a global pandemic—let’s journey together.
