Martha Sahyouni, MA, LCPC

Martha Sahyouni is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor who works with adults and couples from dysfunctional family backgrounds and with childhood trauma and loss. Using a relational and trauma-informed approach, Martha partners with those who struggle with depression, anxiety, food/body image, and toxic/abusive relationships to find hope and change. She also empowers teens caught in cycles of negative emotions by helping them develop the coping skills they need to thrive and by helping their parents cultivate more positive connections with them. Martha sees every client as an individual: therefore, she blends the best of many evidence-based practices — including attachment, mindfulness and cognitive behavioral therapies — to create a unique treatment plan for each client. She is also aware of how important faith and spirituality can be in the healing journey and integrates these if appropriate. A member of both the Illinois Counseling Association and Catholic Psychotherapy Association, Martha is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago (B.S., 1991) and Northeastern Illinois University (M.A. 1995).

I believe in the power of connection and strive to build that with each client. Creating a space where clients feel valued and understood and where they feel free to explore their deepest selves and emotions is my priority. My other priority is to empower clients and help them find strategies that get them unstuck. By doing this in a place where it is okay to fail, I hope they can begin to gain courage to live their lives to the fullest.
